Raising the Roof Auction for St. Mary's Church, Baconsthorpe

We asked for your help and you gave it!

St. Mary's Church, Baconsthorpe dates from the 14th century, with some parts of the chancel dating back to the mid 13th century, and it was restored and partly rebuilt in 1868.

The church has suffered substantial lead theft in the past, necessitating a fundraising campaign to enable repairs.

In March and April 2017, thieves struck again and stripped about six tons of lead from the roof, also causing a lot of damage.  Whilst the culprits were caught and subsequently jailed, the village is once more raising funds to help pay for this work.    It is also the intention to install an alarm system once the work is complete, with the aid of a grant system for this specific purpose.

An auction of promises and interesting things was held at St Mary's Church on Friday 6th July, 2018 at 7 pm.  This consisted of a Live Auction of 40 lots, together with a larger Silent Auction where lots were on view in advance of the event day.

Winning bids for all lots have been published on this website

A raffle was held at the event with donated cash prizes of £250, £100 and £50.

Proceeds from the event and donations have been tallied and the total is *** £23,000 *** .... so we would like to say a big THANK YOU to everyone who donated and/ or participated
